En conferencia de prensa, la ministra de Comunicación y Cultura, Emmelie Prophÿte, subrayó la importancia de una rehabilitación resistente en la zona meridional del país, altamente vulnerable a los fenómenos naturales.

Por su parte, Bruno Lemarquis, representante en Haití del Fondo de Naciones Unidas para la Infancia, señaló que las economías locales deben beneficiarse del proceso de reconstrucción, que también podría fortalecer a las instituciones estatales.
«El plan de recuperación en la península del sur es otra oportunidad para que las instituciones haitianas refuercen su mecanismo de coordinación con los departamentos, los socios internacionales, refuercen su mecanismo de gestión y transparencia y su mecanismo de rendición de cuentas», manifestó.
El 14 de agosto un temblor de 7,2 de magnitud tuvo como epicentro el departamento Nippes, dejando un saldo de más de dos mil 200 fallecidos y 12 mil 700 heridos, además de la destrucción de unas 130 mil viviendas.
CONFERENCIA RECAUDACIÓN DE FONDOS
El próximo miércoles, las autoridades gubernamentales tienen previsto la celebración de una conferencia internacional para recaudar fondos.
La mayoría de ese importe estaría destinado a los sectores sociales como la construcción de viviendas (mil 27 millones de dólares), educación (401 millones), seguridad alimentaria (54,5 millones) y salud (31,9 millones).
Unas mil 250 escuelas sufrieron daños, afectando a más de 300 mil estudiantes, mientras 97 hospitales y centros de salud se deterioraron.
El terremoto fue el segundo más mortífero desde el ocurrido en 2010 que causó la muerte de más de 200 mil personas, y cerca de un millón 500 mil perdieron sus viviendas.
